Got Stress?

Tax season is among us. Dun, dun, dun…

(Enter suspenseful trombone solo here)

Many people may feel increased stress around tax day, and these changes can lead to food cravings and weight gain. Although you can’t prevent stress, there are ways to keep it under control. Here are a few recommendations to lessen the stress in your life...

  • Eat nutritious foods. Eat foods that give you energy like lean protein, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. This will keep your blood sugar steady, and you’ll be less likely to give in to cravings.

  • Exercise. Make time to do something active 30 minutes each day. Whether it’s hitting the gym, going for a walk, playing basketball, etc. Find something you enjoy and get moving.

  • Get adequate sleep. Sleep is important in managing anxiety and cravings. Shoot for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night.

  • Recognize your stressors. Understand what is causing you to feel stressed and take steps to manage it.

  • Relax. Your mind has a huge impact on your body, so take time to read, meditate, take a bath, or whatever soothes your soul.
